Sinebrychoff

An inviting, functional, and community-building employee restaurant

The renewed look of Restaurant Emokarhu

Sinebrychoff’s beverage production plant in Kerava sought a vision for transforming its employee restaurant, Emokarhu, into an inviting, functional, and community-building space for the future. The project was carried out in close collaboration between designers, the project team, and the restaurant operator. The design process was based on collected background information, interviews, an online survey, and workshop sessions.

The goal was to inspire a more versatile use of the employee restaurant’s space: in addition to breakfast and lunch services, Emokarhu would also welcome team meetings and various events.

Our work in this project:

  • Strategic workplace development
  • User-centered methods
  • Communication and change management
  • Spatial and interior design
  • Inclusive and interactive co-development
  • Implementation planning and project management
  • Signage design
  • Lighting design

Insightful signage design and
inspiration drawn from existing brands

In the actual renovation work, both sustainability and the overall budget were taken into consideration: well-maintained existing furniture and surfaces were preserved. Lighting played a significant role in creating different moods within the space. The new color scheme and visual identity of the staff restaurant were inspired by Sinebrychoff’s and Carlsberg’s existing brands. Subtle references were also drawn from Carlsberg’s headquarters in Denmark, but adapted naturally to the Kerava location.
The wayfinding and illuminated signage cleverly reflect the product branding, linking the physical space more cohesively with the company’s core operations.

The canteen transformed into a restaurant that serves as a shared gathering place for all Sinebrychoff employees.

The collaboration with Kakadu was effortless, like a dance. We are very satisfied with our new, beautiful Emokarhu, which has received great feedback from our employees.
